Orientation Workshops

Introducing eLearning tools and PBL to PhD supervisors

Two Orientation Workshops on eLearning tools and PBL brought together PhD supervisors in Kenya and Nepal during August 2014.

The face-to-face Orientation Workshop (OW) for both Maseno University (Kenya) and Gulu University (Uganda) took place in Maseno from 20-22 August, while the OW at Tribhuvan University was held from 25-27 August in Kathmandu. Prior to the OW a pre-orientation workshop stage took place online, using Moodle as the MAGAART project's Learning Management System, from 1-15 August.

Both the face-to-face and online activities, i.e. the accumulated material and shared experience regarding PhD supervision, will be the point of departure for building up a Community of Practice (CoP) - e.g. by implementing discussion forums - for PhD supervisors at both South and North universities. Furthermore, the CoP will be an important element in the coming development of pilot workshops for PhD students at the three South universities.

The Orientation Workshops (OW) were part of activity no. 2.3.1 in the MAGAART project.
